Our latest project

We're in the midst of prepping for the baby (sooooo not ready - please please please kiddo, just stay in for a while. I am freaking out that it'll arrive at 36 weeks - that's 3 weeks from now. Yikes!). Here's what started our latest fiasco:

me: "Honey, I think we need more storage in the bathroom."
him: "Yeah, you're probably right."
me: "Well, there's this vanity on sale at Canadian Tire this week."
him: "OK, let's go get it."

The Husband put together the vanity* and we were ready to mount it on the wall. Two screws, shouldn't be that hard. Hahahaha, you obviously don't know us at all!

Five holes in the (plaster) wall later, we still didn't have the vanity up. We called it a day and went to my parents' house for dinner. I went to Home Depot to get longer screws. (The Kid insisted on sitting in one of the car carts, so my pregnant ass had to push that huge sucker around the entire store for a two dollar package of screws!) We made attempt #2 at putting the vanity up, hoping we could escape without drilling any more holes. Mwahaha, of course that wasn't going to work! So, three MORE holes into the wall, got the anchors in, and the bloody vanity was UP!

In case anyone's keeping score, to recap, it was: 8 holes in the wall, 1 vanity. I do have to say, it was worth it. We have a place for our toothbrushes now.

* please note that yes, I am aware of the around the toilet style vanity. Not going to fly in our bathroom, because the toilet and current vanity overlap and don't leave room for that sort of simple solution. Trust me, if we could have done that instead, we would have.

Happy New Year!

There, I said it. Don't ask again. New Year's is my least favourite holiday of the year. It basically encompasses my least favourite things to do: go out, drink, be loud. Kiss strangers?

Perusing the ads (much smaller pile delivered than before Christmas!), I came across features for stop smoking products, weight loss products... it's just so cliche. Fight the power, everyone! Don't make the typical promises. Be your own person!

In the spirit of the season, I have some resolutions (hey - everybody's doing it!):
  1. Stop being such a slob. In terms of implementation, it means finding a spot for everything in the house, and keeping everything there. Don't just dump and run!
  2. Watch less TV. I'm not sure how this will pan out given a newborn on the way, but the TV doesn't have to be on all evening, does it?
  3. Do more with The Kid. Again, not sure how this will pan out with a newborn, but we need more activities in our lives. Painting, drawing, heck, even cleaning up together - we can do more.
  4. Less procrastination. When there is no deadline, nothing gets done. I need to work on this, I'm still not exactly sure how. Lacking a plan, this is a crappy resolution, but I'm throwing it out there.

We'll see how it goes. If I have an easy baby, this will be easier. If I have another like my first, it's going to be a very tiring year, and it will be more about survival than tidying up my piles.
